Hi ,

I have got into mountain biking over the last year and am seeking the advice of some of you guys on here.I mainly ride the Dalby Red route and purcased a second hand 2008 Rockhopper last year to see if i enjoyed it. I have really enjoyed it so far but my aging body (over 40) is complaining at the end of every 23 mile session and i think a full sus is in order.

Would I be able to buy, say a stumpjumper fsr frame and swap all my components over (rock shox tora , shimano deore, avid juicy 3 etc.) or would there be some probs with geo. or parts not fitting.Would like this to see me through summer and upgrade early next year.

Thanks
Paul

    some would some would not.

common issues, headset,fork.BB. rear wheel, seat post and clamp.front mech.

but again without knowing exactly which frame you have now and which frame you get (model and year) it can only be general comments.

Does it have to be a Specialized?

I started out with a second hand Carrera Hellcat and started upgrading it, eventually I'd replaced everything apart from the seat post and crankset/bb.

I had been regularly looking on ebay for frames local to me and a bare Orange Patriot frame turned up cheaply so I checked the specs and although it had a shorter head tube, narrower seat post. everyting else fitted so all I needed was new gear cables, seat post and clamp, a front mech shim, some headset spacers and a headset as my old one was integrated one and I was away again... but it wasnt long before more upgrades come allong

Main things to check are what travel forks can the new frame take, head tube length/stack hight, seat tube diameter... and you'll probabbly need new gear cables.
Mountain: Orange Patriot FR, SubZero & Evo2LE.
    Road: Tifosi Race Custom.
Do it all bike: Surly Disc Trucker 700c/29er

most of the info is on Spesh's webby

but you will also need to consider the tools needed...

Not that bothered about it being Specialized, just thought it may have been an easier transfer of components.

    Thanks for the info.

If you go for an 09 or earlier Stumpy fsr then the forks will fit without screwing the geometry too badly. If you go 04/05 then you will be using the same length fork roughly so wont lower the front end. All of the parts should fit, even the seatpost and front mech. Otherwise, look around for a slightly older bike for a few hundred quid. Dont forget, a decent bike shop will charge £50+ to swap the parts. Factor this, or £35 for a service for a whole bike.
