Noisy Jockey Wheels

Hi
I am fixing a Edinburgh Cycles Courier which for a mate. The chain was completely rusted and almost immobile so I have replaced this. The rear mech seems to be working fine and the jockey wheels running freely.
The 8 speed shimano Alivio gears are shifting perfectly but there is a rattle from the lower jockey wheel in gears 1-3. The rest of the gears (smaller cog to middle are perfect)
I have had a good look at this on the workstand and can see that the lower jockey wheel teeth are hitting the side of the chain nearest the wheel at one side and then hitting the opposite side of the chain on the other.
Things I have tried to remedy the problem
- Adjusted the High and Low screws numerous times to no avail.
- Adjusted the 'B' screw again to no avail
- checked the alignment of the hanger and mech - both seem fine
I am struggling to find a solution to this so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards
Dave

sounds like chain line might be slightly out or there is play in the jockey wheel bearings.0

Hi
thanks for prompt reply
You could be right. I did overhaul the rear hub...I take it I could have knocked the chain alignment out if the cones/nuts on the axle werent back on exactly as they were.
This could account for it. Back to the drawing board

maybe just take out, clean and re-grease the jockey wheels?0

Just twisted the rear mech back into shape a little and problem seems to be solved.
took it out for a test ride though and though and when in the smallest couple of cogs there appears to be a little slip when pedalling
Any ideas what this may be

sounds like you need to get it checked properly."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
