Several days ago I ordered myself a shiny new Saracen Zen 3 2010, shich I am still awaiting delivery of, this I am most fine with.
The staff at the shop were incredibly helpful, postage of finance application details very fast and easy.
Most importantly, the price was very good, but, it would seem, not good enough, as the very same shop have just emailed me, letting me know that until april an additional 10% is available off all sale items (which mine was).
This would've made the £765 bike £688, quite a substantial difference of £76.50, enough, in fact, for the helmet and saddle I was going to be purchasing.

The question is, should I be a little grumpy about this? I havent got my bike yet, but it's already selling for less than what I paid for it. I suppose I was more than willing to pay the original price, evidently so. But cant help but feel a little stung. Am I just a tight fisted git or would you feel the same way?

Thought as much. I'm not even complaining, just one of those things I suppose. Had I not bought the bike, I wouldnt have recieved the email aswell, so would be blissfully ignorant of it!

There is a way round it...

Since you have not received the goods, cancel your order and ge ta refund. Then buy it again

Cheeky, but nothing to stop you.

Would the fact that I'm purchasing on finance affect that do you imagine? Deposit of £165 already paid and documents sent off. To be honest with the service I recieved I doubt I'd be comfortable doing it in any case. I'd be pissed if someone did that to me!

If paid a deposit, not sure whether they would just keep it!

Maybe best thing is to write a polite email - say it now on sale, yet you haven't received it: could they knock a few quid off or thrown in some goodies?

Just phone them and talk with the shop about this. You said they have been really nice, they might still have some room to be even nicer! Something similar happened to me with some free delivery offered by an online shop just after I placed the order. Sent them an e-mail and they said 'no problem, we will not charge you delivery'. You don't lose anything by trying.

most shops won't want to lose a cash value of £78 off a sale, especially when it's a done deal, however, you may have some luck getting some goods to the value of £78 thrown in (since it will only cost the shop around half that).

depends on the retailer really. if it's halfords, you are pretty much screwed, but an LBS which will want to keep your repeat business may be more flexible.

i used to work in a ski/snowboard shop when i was a student, and we NEVER knocked money off things, instead we would throw in clothing etc for free.

To most people, getting 10% of the value of the skis in clothing was just as good as getting 10% off the purchase price since they were going to purchase the ski wear anyway - however it was actually only like giving a cash discount of 5% which kept my boss much happier.

do you need any other bit and pieces? It would be nice to be able to email/call them and say you've just spend a lot of money with them, you were planning on coming in to buy some accessories etc, you've noticed the bike has dropped in price even though you don't have yours yet, could they give you a discount on the accessories you need?

If someone asked me for that I would be far more likely to agree than if they just wanted a partial refund on their recent purchase.
