Tough Road Tyres

Hi All,
My Gatorskins have been really shredded due to all the grit left on the road following the months of snow we had here in Scotland.
Any tips for a tough road tyre up to or around the same price - £25?
I dont race and cycle for fitness and fun only!

I was looking for some tough tyres to replace the Gatorskins on my winter bike and I read several recommendations on the forum for Bontrager Race Lite Hard Case tyres.
I got a pair, about £14 each and I have used them for about 400 miles so far with no problems. They are wearing well, only one or two minor nicks in the rubber. The only downside compared with the Contis is that they seem to give a slightly harsher ride.0 -
michelin krylions dude 3000 miles not a puncture used all through winter
think they got some on chainreaction0 -
+1 for Michelin Krylions.
Always used Gatorskins in the winter until a clubmate talked me round to using Michelins. I'm converted and definitely feel that they give better grip in the wet.0 -
Continental GP4000 are the only tyre I will ever use and I've tried many different types. In my opinion, they are excellent.0

+1 for the Hard Cases (been running one for a while, no problems so far), though my choice would be Schwalbe Durano Pluses- as tough as the proverbial ancient footwear, one nick on one tyre after nine months of hard use.Dahon Speed Pro TT; Trek Portland

+2 for Krylions, 2 winters, 90kg, no punctures0 -
Brilliant folks - many thanks for the advice!0

Spesh Armadillo Elites for me - 4500 winter miles, 95kgs and no p*******s whatsoever, tread still looks fine too, might be a bit heavy for the racing snake brigades but can't fault them myself2011 Bianchi D2 Cavaria in celeste (of course!)

Spesh Armadillo's are superb for puncture protection but they roll really slowly. I'd say they're a good commuter tyre, being bullet-proof, but if speed floats your boat I'd steer clear.0

I bought some Michelin Krylions following recommendations on here.
I was amazed the other day when I got a puncture in the front after 600 miles - a 7mm gash in the sidewall starting from the coloured band! The contact rubber has no cuts or abrasions, but I think the sidewall is its weak point, as it probably is in other tyres.0 -

Not my biggest consideration, pushing 19s at best over any distance - would far rather have the peace of mind, but each to their own of course2011 Bianchi D2 Cavaria in celeste (of course!)

Another option - Vittoria Rubino Pros. Light, roll well, good puncture protection and I've seen lots of other rceommendations for them. Worth consideration.0

Yes they're light and roll really well with good grip in the wet but puncture protection???
They sidewall gets cut quite easily...I once managed to cut both tyres up just turning a corner...0
