Cannondale is replacing my 2008 Team Scalpel Frame with a 2011 Scalpel Ultimate due to a recall on the 08 frame. My LBS said that I would be responsible for any parts that do not fit on the new frame. As far as I can tell the parts should be interchangeable. Anyone know for sure??

Thanks

check the specs on the webby.

look for BB fitting. seat post size. headset size and type, head tube length. rear hub width and fitting. cable routing.front mech fitting.

    could be fun.

Not sure how you should be responsible if its a recall action though......

  • They are saying that only the frame is part of the recall. I even have to pay for the labor to move the stuff over

Did you buy a frame or a complete bike?

  • I bought a complete bike, but it seems like Cannondales customer service has gone down hill in the last couple years. This is probably the last Cannondale I buy

That's a bit rough, you'd expect them to make good.

Indeed, i'd be inclined to tell them to pay or you'll keep the current one and when it fails sue the ass off them......sounds more like an excuse to 'sell' you a new frame (wonder if 'dale are getting kick backs from the shops duing the reframing!)

  • If I keep the bike the way it is I need to sign a disclaimer stating that I know there is a recall and decided to keep the frame anyways. They really watch their backs on stuff like this. Not too bad though, I just have to pay $170 Canadian for the labor. They are also saying that the new Ultimate frame is far superior to the 2008 team frame.

I asked if I get a new shock with the frame and they just told me that my old one would work, trying to play that against them as the seat post won't move over to the new frame (2008 is 27.2 mm 2011 is 31.6 mm)

well the seat post would. you just need a shim.

  • Ya I'm trying to figure out the best material to make the shim out of. Right now I'm thinking of doing a fiberglass wrap, but I might just end up finding a piece of tubing that will work

  • Ya I'm looking at them right now, for the cost of them it isn't worth the hassle of making one, even though I like to do stuff like that.

    Thanks for the link
