I commute on a Spezialised Tricross and currently ride with a rucksack. I am thinking of purchasing a rack and panniers but I have come across a handlebar bag.

Has anyone ride with a handlebar bag, any thoughts comments?

  • People always seem to get on with them fine except when it gets dark they get in the way of the front light

Used one for a bit but didn't like how heavy they make the steering.

How about a rack and a top bag rather than a pannier?

The Topeak Tourguide bar bag is good.

Have you considered a seat post bag? http://www.discountcyclesdirect.co.uk/p ... s_id=10207
Can make the steering feel a little odd (like any pannier), but I got over that quickly & probably don't notice it as much as some people would as I don't ever stand up & pump.

It all depends of course on what you are carrying, I carry a laptop in a small bag (about 3.5Kg) lunch (about 1KG) and my tools.waterproof etc, so they each go in one pocket of a 3 pocket pannier, they wouldn't fit in a bar bag! (and if they did the steering would be horrid)

Doesn't a Tricross have top mounted brake levers? Would they get in the way of a bar mounted bag. I've got a Kona Jake that has the extra top mounted levers and no way a handlebar bag would fit.

Nope - the klickfix ones have a special extendy thing to put them further forward and avoid top mounted levers :)
  • I was thinking the same thing as the OP but all I could see from my handlebars were yards and yards of cables......I couldn't fit a purse off my bars never mind a bag
