He's doing the Yukon Ultra "the coldest race on earth" so it doesn't look like he's taking the advice. It's on next week.

Jeez just up to the accident - bloody lucky to survive it - the impact broke his top tube. . Amazing athlete and a good documentary.

However, he has chosen to marry and have children. I think it's his duty to care and think for them first and foremost.

Mate - why do you think he does these things? He does it to earn money to put food on the table for his wife and kids. OK, he probably loves the buzz/achievement too, but TV channels aren't going to want to film him doing "the ultimate challenge - 3 laps of Richmond Park" are they?

Yes, he goes off and does these things, but as a result he doesn't work 9-5 and therefore will be around for his kids a lot more when he's just training.

I've spoken to him and I know that because of the dedication he had to his rowing, he feels his major qualification/skill is to keep hitting the wall until he or the wall falls down. And he is likely to hit the wall more often and harder than anyone else.

People criticising how he is with his family just don't know - you're getting all your info from the media!
  • When you watch these programmes it makes you realise the focus and determination these guys (& ladys) have, it's incredible, it's not until you push yourself to your limits that you truely understand what it takes to undertake these kind of challanges.

JC is as stubborn as a mule, but then if you want to be the best or go the hardest / fastest then this is the way you have to be, it's a certain mindset. He reminds me in some respects to Sir Ranulph Fiennes, he too was (is) always looking to push the boundaries and had the stop at nothing attitude.

IMO JC is a great role model for young kids and adults alike, unlike overpaid footballers living the high life & falling out of night clubs at 3am!

Hope JC makes a full and swift recovery.
  • He comes over as a real nice bloke and I have massive amount of respect for his rowing achievements. I just couldn't get the point of the challenge or more to the point the time scales and the way it was put together, 80 miles run in a day with a broken foot, sorry just don't see the point. By all accounts ride across america and film it and some of the places and people you come across to me that would be more interesting.

On a side note we should all wear helmets. Luckily I started wearing one after many years of not and it saved my life according to the A+E consultant. No matter how good you are on a bike it's the actions of others you have to worry about.

Speady recovery to him anyway and respect for his mental drive.

I've mentioned this on a previous thread in which he was included. If you read 'The Crossing' the mindset and determination between the two is remarkable.

    I agree with you 100% !

I was also keen to know what happened to the driver of the truck. As for who was to blame, that could be difficult to prove I would suspect. It would be his word vs James Cracknell's.
It was a shame that for whatever reason his support team did not follow him on this occasion !

I wish him a full and speedy recovery, awesome athlete !

They weren't allowed to follow as they said there was a minimum speed limit in that state. Presumably for motor vehicles on freeways.

I can't remember the exact details, but I think it was the lorry driver that stopped and got an ambulance there. Doesn't excuse hitting him in the first place of course, but having done a bad thing, at least it wasn't compounded.
