I know that both the 705 and 800 support virtual parter training but does anybody know if you can use a historic ride to create a virtual partner so you could race against yourself around the same circuit? I haven't been able to find the answer to this anywhere so hope someone can help.

Yes you can, I've done this a few times (although not for a while)

You select one of your previously recorded rides and convert it on the Garmin into a course. Then you go to the Training menu, select a course, pick the new course you've just created and away you go. Then you get to race against a little cyclist on the screen, there's also a number telling you how far in front or behind you are. It's great being dropped by yourself.
