hi, this weekend I dented the non-drive side chainstay on my 2010 Specialized FSR XC Pro, all my own fault of course so I dont expect Specialized will cover it under warranty...

Should my local Specialized dealer be able to arrange a replacement?

And how much is this likely to cost?

    How did you manage that????
  • Coming down slowly enough through some mucky slippy singletrack I came off the bike and hit the side off a rock, thought i'd just hit the quick release skewer until i cleaned off the bike! :x

Ring specilized customer services, they do a damage replacement one, I bought one about 18 months ago think it was around £40.
  • heres a random suggestion, try a "sucker" to remove it.

when you get nicks and dents in cares you can "sucker" a lot of them out back to "form".

i remember a mate did simular thing on his bike as the dent wasnt that deep and sucked out quite well.

Have a word with them, they might help.
Marin replaced my snapped swingarm a few years ago, even though I told the shop I'd snapped it in a crash that left me concussed, bleeding and bruised!
    It just wasn't an issue.

An bend the aluminium again further weakening it and increasing the chance of stress risers...

Works on flat dents (hail damage etc) on relatively flat steel panels.
Never work on thin tubes, especially as the metal is creased.

not to mention they're not exactly structural members...
  • Ordered a new Swing-arm from Specialized, £90!

Gonna still use the bike anyways its hardly likely to snap and its not thrown off the alignment either..

My stumpjumper has a dent like that but a bit more in the center; I keep an eye on it but its never moved. Paint never cracked though.

  • Ya the 1st layer of paint is chipped off, but looks like there's a laquer over the metal so its not likely to rust... just have to wait for the part to be fitted and delivered now, but ill still be using the bike in the meantime..

Aluminium doesn't rust although over time (long time) it will oxidise which I suppose is sort of rusting.
