Hi,

I have a relatively new bike, but the lockout on the rock shox tora sl 100mm seems to have given in. It is a little stiffer when enabled but doesn't lock like it used too, and pretty much leaves the full 100mm travel.

The bike was as new when I bought it a couple of months ago, but I dont have the receipts or warranty to get it replaced. Since Im pretty skint at the moment I cant really afford to take it to the shop - So basically wondering if i can damage the forks at all by riding it like this?

cheers.

why not take it to where you got it from> they should have a record of the transaction. Or go with a bank statement if you paid by card). You won't damage them, but they want servicing to sort out. IIRC it's all in the FAQ section

it was an ebay buy, far away from where Im living at the moment - I was meant to get the original receipt but they had couldnt find it - anyway would still be more effort to get back there if I had it.

good to hear they wont damage, i'll look into servicing them, but not something Ive ever done before so a bit apprehensive...

just serviced my reba SL's for the first time Sunday night. It's not that difficult provided you take your time and watch the Sram videos on youtube as they walk you through it.

You will probably find that the oil from the damping side (right hand side looking down on fork) has leaked into the lower,a common fault on certain Toras,Recon, Rebas etc.
There is an o-ring in the bottom of the stanchion leg which the damper shaft moves through, when this wears, oil will leak out from the stanchion past the damper rod and in to the void in the fork lower.

Strip the fork and replace this o-ring and the oil should stop leaking, full instructions on servicing on the SRAM site.

Chances are the oil level in the damper is too low. Quite easy rebuild if you are practical. Or many shops can do Rockshox, we charge £30.
