Believe me, people who wear real nice watches look at what watch you are wearing. it's like an indicator.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Complete w**k.
incorrect.
there's a reason many people buy expensive watches, and it's not because they are impressed by the beautifully engineered mechanism, it's because it demonstrates that you have money. aye, pretty shallow, but why else spend £15k on a watch?
so when you're sat in a meeting with a room full of people wearing suits, and someone sat on your left is wearing an IWC/PP etc, it's never occurred to you that people notice it?
and it's never occurred to you that if you looked to your right and someone is wearing a shoddy TAG they bought while on holiday in tenerife that people don't notice that?
i suppose you think that people don't notice when you are wearing a crap suit either?
And that's even funnier. The only bit you got right was that the reason WEALTHY people do it is because they can. The reason others do it is completely aspirational and to position themselves IN THEIR OWN MIND against everyone else. Oh, and they then pretend that the world revolves around that.
No, none of that has ever bothered me as I am much more concerned about whether the person is capable of doing what is/has been required of them and whether that will benefit me. End of story.
Oh, and you'd really struggle with me, as I tend to turn up to meetings in motorcycle kit and with a cheap watch on, which gets taken off instantly and sits on the desk/table in front of me so I know how much of my time is being wasted. But then I suppose you'd just try and guess how much my folio cost?! Sad.

pretty sure no one has ever turned up at a meeting that i've been at in motorcycle gear, so yeah i would struggle, i would wonder why someone thought it acceptable to turn up to a meeting in motorcycle gear.so I know how much of my time is being wasted.
oooooh, you sound very busy and important. pesky meetings get in the way of your other important things to be doing? But then I suppose you'd just try and guess how much my folio cost?! Sad.
nah, not my style. i'd still be having a chuckle at you having turned up to a meeting wearing leathers to be honest.
the point bring debated here is whether to buy real or fake.
if you buy a fake watch that imitates an expensive one, surely it defeats the purpose, since the only people who would be impressed would probably be able to spot a fake anyway?
i doubt many of my mates would even know IWC was expensive, but my colleagues would know and they would probably be wondering where i got the money from and whether or not it was real
(btw, I wear a g-shock to work since it's the only one i can't seem to break)

Another winner, you don't think someone that rides a motorcycle is worthy of your attention. That's the best yet.
Yep, but never too busy that I can't spend some time winding up sad, judgemental people.
It obviously is your style as you've previously posted that you judge people on everything else. Oh, and you assume you'd be in a position to do that in a meeting with me?
Good luck with the rest of your life. Perhaps if you stop judging people by their watches and their suits you may not have to rely on bonuses to support it all.Trail fun - Transition Bandit

Provided it isn't a £20 one bought off a beach somewhere I doubt you'd be able to tell without a loupe and a set of tools. They really are frighteningly good, and the fakers somehow manage to get out fakes of new models at an amazing speed. You've almost got to admire them.
Ultimately though, it is illegal and if you're happy supporting that then it's your decision. Depending on whether you believe the argument that the proceeds are used for other, more nefarious purposes, it's largely a victimless crime - the buyers aren't buying one instead of the real thing so the manufacturers have little incentive to prosecute and if the consumer finds that the watch he bought of a street market stops after 2 weeks then frankly there's not a lot of sympathy there...0 -

you're worse than my girlfriend. how did you possibly arrive at that conclusion from my post? a little bit chippy are we?
It obviously is your style as you've previously posted that you judge people on everything else. Oh, and you assume you'd be in a position to do that in a meeting with me?
and off you go again. where did I say what I judge people on? Was I not making a observation generally?Good luck with the rest of your life. Perhaps if you stop judging people by their watches and their suits you may not have to rely on bonuses to support it all.
and again, god you're tedious. all i said was that a cheap watch and cheap suit are noticed. Did i ever say that I judge people if they were wearing one? Some of the most talented people i work with wear the most horrific suits i've ever seen. just because they are competent doesn't mean their suits are any less horrible.
Thanks for the good luck wishes though, it's appreciated.
I'm bored as hell today, absolutely nothing to do, so your utter drivel is providing me with a bit of amusement, carry on.0 -
On the subject of fakes, there was a case a few years ago where a factory in china was making fake Sony soundsystems, and selling them for sony-esque prices.
They only got found out when they decided to actually sell systems they'd designed themselves buut still stuck the Sony badge on them. Sony started getting support calls for a broken systems that they'd never heard of!0 -

There have been quite a few cases of people sending their 'Rolex' or 'Omega' off to the main dealer to get it serviced only to be told that it isn't real and currently being crushed!0 -
Yes, but this was an entirely "new" model, not even a copy anymore!0

yoohoo999 wrote:As for fakes.....don't see the point. Using the "oh, but i just like the look but don't want to spend £10k" doesn't work. Do a bit of looking around, there are plenty of nice looking, unique and well designed watches for £100-£300 that don't rip off someone else.
The total cost of my 3 is less than a fiver. They double in value everytime I put a new battery in them...0 -

Do you work in a retail environment, or a MNC, or diplomatic setting?
I don't wear really expensive watches myself, the most expensive of my watches cost £300. But it's real, and it does the job.
If you had any professional business experience, you would realise that wearing a fake watch could be a deal breaker for some people. If you arn't good enough to pay for a real watch, and choose a fake instead it can show things about your business integrity. Why would I want to invest millions in your company, if you parade around wearing fake clothing as if it is real? It shows you don't have the commitment to things, and shows me (in certain ways) that you can't be trusted in a business sense.
If I was about to sign a large deal and someone showed up wearing motorcycle gear and a cheap fake watch, most likely I would walk out of the room. Doesn't show much respect in my opinion.0 -
In the end expensive watches are just blokes bling/jewellery. My best watch for actually telling the time is a Casio G-Shock and I can afford loads of non-fake ones"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0

That's handy because I'm not asking you or the bling-boy to do business with me.
I don't wear a cheap fake, I wear a cheap watch. It's never cost me a deal in the same way that turning up on a motorbike has never. I'd go as far as to suggest you're rather lacking in "professional business experience" if you genuinely think that ANY of this makes any difference. The only thing you got right in that paragraph piece on business integrity. That comes from actions and the establishment of trust, not from a meeting in a designer suit and an expensive watch.
I'm sure you're comfortable in your world with those strange, judgemental ideas. I'm more than happy in mine where I deal with people of substance.Trail fun - Transition Bandit

i used to have regular meetings with my boss and one of the senior bosses of Stagecoach
they both always turned up in leathers, although come to think of it im not sure my old boss had a bike
i was the only one that maintained any kind of decoram and stuck with my cheap watch and cheaper suit0 -

You seem to have completely missed out on the main part, the fake part. I as well wear a cheap watch, my statement was stating that people who wear fake watches and parade around pretending they are real are the ones to watch out for.
Although, it all depends on what industry, and what level of meetings/ purpose the meeting is for. General staff meetings are fine to wear that too, but I sure as hell would be disappointed if someone showed up to sign a large contract wear motorcycle clothes and a fake watch.0 -

Posh watches.... it's all bollox init?
I can appreciate the quality and design that goes in to making some of them. But c'mon... £10K, £30K £50K.... £100K+ for a watch!!!!???
When a handful of components costs more than a 200mph Ferrari you know the worlds gone nuts.
It really is just about willy waving when all's said and done. A really posh watch - the like that premiership footballers and city boys wear just shows that 'guess what guys.... this is just, like, a weeks wages on my wrist'.
The whole purpose of a watch has been supplanted by a £10 Casio. So where else is there to go.... except as a trophy of success.
Sure... a Ferrari does the same in the willy waving stakes. But guess what... there ain't many fake Ferraris about that I know of. Wonder why...
But a £100 fake tells the time just the same as a £20K real watch.
Just my opinion.
And BTW... I still love posh watches.Cool, retro and sometimes downright rude MTB and cycling themed T shirts. Just MTFU.
