Hey Guys,

Finally got round to ordering the parts to upgrade my hardrock from 7 speed to 9 speed, only thing i havent ordered is a new front mech, will my basic altus front mech work with a 9 speed system? Was planning on getting a new front mech at some point anyway but if my altus will work it'll just save me shilling out another 20 quid for the time being.

Cheers

Nick

It will - but may be a touch slow shifting as the cage is a little wider.

Cheers, If the slower shifting is annoying I'll just order a nice shiny slx front mech :)

My Daughter is running a 9 speed chain and cassette with a 7 speed front mech, (Shimano STX) on her commuter, it required a little more finesse setting up to get the up and down shifts even, but once done the shift is really no different to the 'right combination'.
