Advice on clothing for first commute

All,
I pick up the Airnimal tomorrow evening, so will probably attempt my first commute from Hither Green to London on Wednesday.
I'll need to buy some cycling shorts (definitely baggies) and SPD shoes (that can be worn with flats to start with) tomorrow.
Can anyone recommend some good baggy shorts with good padding around the but area and some decent SPD shoes (casual type like some Tahoe's) that I can use with flats to start with and then probably move to clipless? (I've tried the search function and there is a lot of info to try and digest all at once).
Here's to Wednesday!!!
Cheers

On the shoes side I find myself hugely tempted to buy a pair of these;

For baggy shorts, endura hummvee's are pretty good, they'd be my recommendation.- Genesis Equilibrium Athena
- Cannondale CAADX Force/105/Rival0 -
I've been using these for the last 3 years and they've been pretty awesome:

I like the ratchet... Much better than just velcro.
Will be upgrading this summer, but only because I'm moving away from SPD's on my road bike and will be looking for fancy lighter shoes.0 -
the endura humvee shorts are good and come with a removable padded liner so you can swap em with a clean pair/pop em in the wash as needed.

Bear in mind that there will be a spring cycling sale at Aldi pretty soon - it's low-end of the market stuff but it's also generally durable and very cheap. Also Decathlon is cheap and conveniently it's on your route - they're open late so you could drop in on your first commute home to pick up the few basic things you realised you ought to have have that morning.
Tee hee, yet another SE London commuter! Keep your eyes out for other forumites on your way.0 -
Thanks for all the Claire Rayner-esque recommendations!!!
I'll take a look at the Humvee's tomorrow at Evans or CycleSurgery.Little boy to Obama: "My Dad says that you read all our emails"
