RaceFace/SRAM/Truvative/Shimano drive train compabality

I am rebuilding the drive-train on my '08 Cannondale Prophet and thought I was doing great on compatibility with the following:

New
RaceFace Turbine 22T/32T/44T Chain Rings
SRAM PG-970 9-speed MTB Cassette
SRAM PC-971 9-speed Chain

On
Truvative Stylo Crankset
SRAM X9 Rear Derailleur
Shimano Diore LX Front Derailleur

I made the assumption the all 9 speed MTB chains are compatible. Before trimming the chain I noticed the compatibility guide for the chain stating:
Compatability front: Truvative/HG/ Exa Drive
Compatability back: PG/HG/Exa Drive

with no mention of RaceFace.

With http://www.raceface.com/ being down I can not tell if this is a valid set-up or if that site will even help. Via this forum I see that Shimano and SRAM chains are interchangeable making me think that some basic standards should ensure proper use in my case. When I see charts like this Shimano one http://bike.shimano.com/publish/content/global_cycle/en/us/index/tech_support/tech_tips.download.-Par50lparsys-0025-downloadFile.html/01%29%20Drivetrain%20Compatability%20Chart.pdf I think otherwise. I would like to get off google and on to my bike ASAP here but don't want to screw up my new rig.

This is my first time replacing a drive train (obviously). I want a good set-up allowing me to feel comfortable racing sport this summer.

Questions:
Is there any reason that these parts would not be compatable?
Am I misunderstanding or over-thinking something here?

Thanks,
Jason

keep the speeds the same and the rear mech and shifter matched and you will be fine.

    As Nicks says.

I'll just add, that there isn't really such thing as an MTB chain. I run the same PC-991 chains on road bikes and mountain bikes, and have also swapped my 9spd cassettes around between road and XC MTB too. It's all the same stuff...sort of...
  • Great, thanks. That is what I was hoping to hear.

My previous bike would continually break chains. Every new chain would creek and break on its maiden voyage. Fricken crazy. :? Bike shops had no idea why. I've been septic even since.

The only time I've snapped chains is with Shimano ones.

I've never had a problem with SRAM, using magic links to join.

As long as you never join any links using a chain rivet extractor, you'll be fine.
