Escaping innertube...!

Hi guys,
Had an interesting one today. Bouncing down Cwmcarn I came to a stop at the end of the second to last section to wait for buddies. Then bam, my innertube pops out of my tyre! Few seconds later the whole thing burst and there's bit of innertube all over the place.
Question is, why after not having a puncture in the rear for 6 months or so (yes, 6 months!!) would it suddenly go a bit mad? I'm guessing the tyre slipped off the rim but it's never happened before. I swapped the tube out and carried on with no problems. It's a Schwalbe Nobby Nic and Specialised Thin innertube (not sure how thin).
Cwmcarn is quite rocky for XC, is it possible I pinched the side of a rock or seventeen and it's popped the rim off enough for the tube to escape?

did te tyre rip?
if not it sounds like the tyre wasn't seated properly... a bit of side flex in the tyre wall an the inner pops out?0 -
it can just happen to any tyre and at anny time."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Nope, tyre is fine. It's been on the wheel for 6 months with no punctures or issues. I've seen it on DH bikes a couple times but they run pretty low pressures I guess. Mine was 40psi (checked before the ride).
Ah well, chalk it to random fun0 -
if you think about it ,6 months is a long time to be trapped inside a tyre. maybe the tube was getting a little claustrophobic and was yearning the sweet taste of the fresh spring air. i let my tubes out every 2 months or so, just to be on the safe side.Viner Salviati

Heh yeah I was happy it happened while I was waiting for my buddies to catch up. I had just done a fast rocky long section... coming off would have been like falling onto a cheesegrater!
Kinda looks like my poors bikes guts spilled all over the shop...0 -
Gutted that it had let you down? :?
