What shoes to wear

Hi,
My girlfriend wants shoes for her birthday (seriously, I'm not trying to use a stereotype).
However, she wants them to be comfy to wear all day, yet spd compatible as she has to cycle about 20 miles round trip 2-3 times a week.
I was wondering if anyone knows any good ones that would fit the purpose?
Thanks
Lucas

What would she be doing when she is not cycling? Sitting? Walking around? Carrying stuff?0

Shoes are quite a personal thing and perhaps should be tried on rather than just bought blind. More often than not cycling shoes should be bought at least one size larger than the wearer usually takes, however the Lidl shoes which were on sale last week and IMHO are ideal first SPD shoes are quite large and you may find you need a size smaller than usual.
As you have summised SPD shoes tend to accept recessed cleats so are perhaps easier to live with 'off the bike'.
Naturally you will need matching pedals and cleats with the new shoes.Nobody told me we had a communication problem0 -
We got the daughter some Diadora trainer style SPDs for Christmas, she finds them very comfortable to walk around in, with a decent hard sole round the SPD holes (MTB style) to provide pedaling support yet flexible under the arch for walking, cost us £15 from CRC.
SimonCurrently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
She would be walking about all day, as she teaches at a college.
She ended up going for some shimanos that had good reviews, however shw might change them once she tries them on when they arrive.
Thanks for all the advice0 -
She really would probably be best leaving a pair of shoes at the work place If its the same place each time, then she doesn’t have the inconvenience of carrying shoes with her or of wearing SPDs all day.0

Hey, She would do well to check out the DZR Jet Lag shoes:
http://www.alwaysriding.co.uk/dzr-jetla ... n-916.html
or the DZR Tosca Shoe:
http://www.alwaysriding.co.uk/dzr-tosca ... n-917.html
Both are SPD compatible, but styled as street shoes for off the bike.
DZR also make men's versions!0 -
I'd say take a look at either the Jetlag or Tosca DZR urban cycling shoe:

Or alternatively, a smaller size of the unisex Chrome Kursk SPD:

Both types are very well made (i have a DZR Concubine, and a Kursk), and seem to fit the bill of riding to work / off the bike ease of walking.0
