Hi

I've never been a keen cyclist other than my paper round as a kid and family cycles when on holiday.

Since moving to London I have started commuting (10 miles each way) to work on my 4 year old Giant Upland SE to see how I enjoyed it. Basically, I love it! I was going to buy a hybrid but after trying a few road bikes I am convinced. Road is what I need as my commute is roads all the way. The ride just feels great.

I made my decision today to buy a trek 1.1c but they never had a 56cm in store so test rode a 2010 1.2 T in 56cm. As the 1.2 has more gears and carbon forks, will I be disappointed with the 1.1?

Thanks
Mike

    Short answer is yes

Longer answer is I just purchased the Trek 1.2 Compact 2010 model I Tried both the 1.2 & the 1.1 at the shop and although I only spent about 10-15minutes on each, the difference in smoothness of ride and comfort was clear.

At the end of the day I would strongly recommend the 1.2 but try both out as I did and see which you prefer.

I bought a Trek 1.1 just after christmas (old GT got nicked) and its been brilliant! my LBS tried the same tactics on me claiming not to have what I wanted ready to test ride and pushing me onto a specialized that was twice the price!

Comfort wise its been great and considering I live in sheffield its wicked on the hills!

If your only doing commutes I'd stick with the cheaper 1.1 and use the money saved on some decent clothing for the commute.
