bummer :(

hit a bit of mud that looked like a berm a bit too quickly. apparently it's not a great break either, need to go see a surgeon and been told it will be at least 2-3 months off the bike

these awesome pics were taken by Tom Towers a millisecond before I slammed and just as i snapped my collar bone. He also took the one of my bike as we waited for my lift to hospital. excellent work Tom! :)

check out tom's other excellent photography stuff here: http://curly-haired-invader.pinkbike.com/

    jesus man that sucks!!!

atleast you didnt find that your "hand made by supposidly one of the best wheel builders in the country wheels" where actually built by a retarded chimp who clearly has no idea how to properly tension a wheel, had to do up a good dozen or so spokes in both wheels, some where barely threaded onto the nipple
  • Absolutely gutted for you yoohoo.

How was the bike before it tried to kill you though?

Looking forward to seeing the pics of fail.

    Get well soon

i'll try to write a detailed first impressions review once ive got the hang of typing with my other hand!

in all honesty, the bike was unreal. i was out with a couple of lads who race DH and they were blown away. problem is, it just kept begging me to hit things faster and faster.

josh's immortal last words to me. as we sessioned a section for the photographer..."steve, you're hitting that waaaay too quickly mate"

i think he was right! i stacked it hard once before, but then still added a bit more speed on my next attempt and hit the ground pretty hard. wasn't pleasant at all, thought it was my neck at first. got some whiplash too.

trust me though, if this photo looks as good on the computer as it did on the screen of the DSLR, then it will almost be worth it!!!

    i've got tigerblood! 8)

not even had anything more than ibruprofen and paracetomol yet. i've broken quite a few bones, think i've got high pain tolerance, but little injuries seem to hurt me more for some reason! took me 2 hours just to get to a&e because of where we were riding, lots of hiking out of the forest first!

you've gotta keep upbeat, this sport throws a few injuries out every now and then.

luckily im a lawyer, so all i need to be able to do is speak and read in order to work, my seccy can do the rest!

could have been worse, it's only a collar bone

No point getting down with breakage. Ain't going to make it knit any quicker. And getting tense just plain hurts.

The time off the bike is the biggest tick. I'm getting ready for the all clear from the docs tomorrow after being off for two months, (I learnt that smashing your humorus is not the same as cracking a joke! )

Yoohoo, stick with it, man, and enjoy being calm - bones'll knit. As you'll know the rate of muscle wastage is shocking, but it can come back quickly. 8)

From expereince, watch what side of the car you get into - get into the opposite side to the break - the seatbelt'll prove a real cussfest if you don't!

    Do well, man. 8)

so thats how you can afford such a nice bike...

i have to get stuff from a £30 a week from a paper round.hahh. i bet your earn more than that in a few hours at work

the bike doesn't have a scratch on it!

then again, if stevie smith and tyler morland can rag it down Red Bull Mountain Psychosis, it should be able to withstand me washing out on a berm!

That explains the pain tolerance then. Old Nick's minions have been crafted in the bowels of hell. A splintered shoulder must be like water off a duck's back. ;)

Seriously bad luck dude. Hope it mends fast and well.

I feel your pain, no realy i do i bust my colar bone Aug last year a week before going to France and only 2 months after picking up my dream ride grrr.
My problem was that it wouldnt heal (maybe cos i kept riding after the first 4 weeks ) got so bad it forced me off the bike for most of winter, i've put on 2 1/2 stone and now had a bone graft and plate in my shoulder but doc says i can ride now so alls good!
Just remember to give it time to heal or it will just make it worse in the long run ....trust me on that :(
Ohh and you should get some great bruises come up lol

How the hell did you get the images of your x-rays? My hospital said they aren't allowed to release them any more. I saw the pictures of the scaffolding in my leg on screen at the hospital, but no dice getting them to let me have a copy?

Smiled sweetly at the nurse when they were on the screen and took a snap with my phone lol
They said I could have a copy but would charge me £15 !

They let me have copies of all the metalwork in my ankle, just in case I ever had any issues with metal detectors.

Having said that they also told me that because they'd used non-magnetic titanium plates and screws that it was highly unlikely that I would ever set one off. And they were right.

    The scar's great though :)

They gave me a form with a list of all the bits and pieces they put in me in case I ever need it when going through a metal detector !

    What !!

Turn my back for a second and you go and do that. Ah, well at least it gives Wharncliffe a chance to dry out.

Super tough luck there let it heal properly and don't sell it in frustration.
I'm going to blow the bank on a new build ( within reason ) NOW DONE!!
