Above is my '06 Coiler, it's had Halo SAS rims added & lots of old parts replaced.

Im toying with the idea of changing the forks to something modern but feel I'm at the point of diminishing returns. Anything out there that would be a noticable upgrade? It's a bit like holding a jackhammer so also considering a service and change to a soft spring?

Happy to spend upto 300 new or secondhand.

how much do you weigh? and how much air do you have in the 2 air chambers? i used to have these forks, and it can take a bit of trial and error, but you can set them up to feel really nice.

You won't get much fork new for £300, especially in 160mm (I assume)

You may be able to get some secondhand Fox Vans for that much or just over. They will be pretty iffy though.
And now you know, and knowing is half the battle

Thanks, I've been looking around and the only option appears to be 2nd hand pike 454s BUT I think Koilers onto a winner, let some air out!

I'll download the manual and have a play..

the manual can still be found on sram's website.

    Its not much use tho!

When sitting on the bike, the right leg houses the spring, and the air valve is for pre loading the spring, tthe left leg is positive air to assist the coil.

Take almost all the air out of the preload side, you'll need to keep 1 or 2 psi in there otherwise it can pull the fork into the travel if theres negative pressure in there.

With the left leg, just put enough air in so you get the correct amount of sag, then go for a ride!

You can wrap a cable tie around the stantion, it wont scratch it, use this to guage how much travel you're using, if the fork feels too soft, add 5psi at a time into the left leg until it feels better when you ride, you can add a small amount of air to the preload side if the fork dives lots under braking.

Basically, ride for a day with a shock pump in ypur bag and just keep making small adjustments, you can buy the tool to adjust the internal rebound if you feel the need, i never did, it just always felt about right
