My wife now wants a hybrid

I've biked for most of my life and in an attempt to get my wife in to it I've bought her a mountain bike and more recently a road bike. She's used the road bike once and told me she doesn't feel safe on it and would like a hybrid bike.
Is it worth me changing the bars on the road bike to regular bars or are hybrids quite different and I should just get a totally new bike.
Not that clued up on hybrids so any info would be appreciated.
Thanks, Sirlylos

There's a really broad spread of bikes which manufacturers will call 'hybrid'. Some are closer to roadbikes, but with a flatbar. Some are slightly more upright hardtail MTBs. Some are more 'city' bikes. Some are just crud.
A question... did she come with you with the other bike purchases? Did she try them out? SWMBO absolutely adores her commuter/city bike... but then, she picked it.Commute - MASI Souville3 | Road/CX - MASI Speciale CX | Family - 80s ugly | Utility - Cargobike0 -
Thanks baudman, yes she came with me and gave it a quick try out - I think she'd seen mine and quite fancied the idea but in reality she never really gets chance to use it as the day we bought it was the day she found out she was preggers!
Out of interest what city bike does your missus have?1993 - Ridgeback 301 G3

A mate just bought his missus (her choice) a Ghost with ultra-low stepthru via CRC in the UK. Looks R-E-A-L-L-Y nice, and well specc'd with lights, chain guard, rack etc etc. She needed a triple, so she can tow a trailer up steep hills.

So yeah... think about usage. Shopping? Hills? Or just easy cruising. A lot of the dutch-oriented ones look the goods, and are near unbreakable.[/img]Commute - MASI Souville3 | Road/CX - MASI Speciale CX | Family - 80s ugly | Utility - Cargobike0
