Knee Pain

Woke up yesterday morning and my left knee was hurting a tad, not much, so didn't think much of it. Cycled the 3 mile round trip to uni and decided to take the evening off from riding in order to rest for a bigger ride today.

Woke up this morning and the pain was still there, but looking out the window the weather was glorious and I just couldn't stop myself from going for a ride despite the knee pain, did a 48 mile ride and to be honest I could barely feel the pain in my knee at all. However since I got back the knee has been feeling increasingly painful and it hurts to walk up and down stairs. The pain is mainly around the outside of my left knee. Wondered if anyone else has experienced anything similar to this? My bike setup hasn't changed in months and I've been doing the same amountof riding I do every week, nothing particularly strenuous and no real changes to my riding routine. I really cant think of anything that could have triggered it.

Help would be appreciated,

Thanks,

Nick

    Go to a physiotherapist.

If you're not allergic, take some anti-inflammatories and apply ice whilst you wait to see someone.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

If it's the outside of the knee it's probably iliotibial band syndrome. Can be painful and is brought on by commonplace things like a sudden twisting of the leg. Rest, ice, compression and elevation (RICE) is the remedy, plus anti-inflamatory/pain killers.
