Bwlch and Rhigos training ride...Sat. April 16th@10.00

OK - here goes - myself and 10 friends and work colleagues are training
for and plan to complete JOGLE in May of this year and several of us
are also riding the Wiggle Dragon Ride in June.
As we are all trying to get the miles in at the moment, and trying to
raise money for charity at the same time, I've come up with a cunning
plan..
On April 16th I intend to take two, or possibly three groups of
cyclists on a guided ride around significant chunks of the South Wales
valleys, taking in the iconic Rhigos and Bwlch climbs as well as
several others en route (see map)....including the 20%+ 'Devil's Elbow'
http://www.bikeroutetoaster.com/Course. ... rse=215521
The intention is to have a ride leader in each group, as well as a
'shepherd' as tail-ender to ensure the group stays together, and to
ensure the 'lanterne-rouge' doesn't get spat out the back and lose
touch.
There will, provisionally, be two groups, the 'A' group, riding at
16/17mph, and the 'B' group, riding at 14/15mph average. If there is
sufficient interest, we could arrange a 'C' group riding at 12/13mph,
too (bear in mind the size of the climbs involved - for those of you
not familiar with road cycling in God's country, these are mountains,
not hills!)
The groups will depart at 5 minute intervals, to minimise traffic
disruption, so if you find yourself breathing through your @ss in the
lead group, you always have the option to drop back to group behind.
The ride will be 80-ish miles long and I have secured all participants
a free cuppa in the Station cafe, Treorchy (at 30 miles) as well as
another at Pietro's in Porthcawl at approx the 60 mile mark.
All starters will have a free flapjack to keep you going as well
as a route map as an 'aide-memoire' for the ride.
To secure a place on this ride, I expect everyone to contribute at my
JustGiving site for Ty-hafan (a children's hospice, here in Wales). Min
contribution would be £5, ideally £10, and don't forget to gift-aid
your donation (see link in sig; below). Entry on line is feasible for those of
you who don't like online transactions, but PM/post first, please.
When you donate, leave your e-mail address, too (no spam, I promise!),
and I'll create an e-mail group with any further details, closer to the
date, including route map and directions to start.
The ride is scheduled to depart from Halfords car park, Neath at 10
(meet at 09.45), so you can pick up any last minute spares and there is
also a Lidl, next door, for snacks etc. Entries will be on a
first-come, first-served basis, limited to approx 20 per group.
For those coming from further afield, PM me for hotel details, if
required.
Once the limit of 20 per group is reached, I will post it up
on this thread.
Biccies and cakes for all finishers!
Look forward to seeing some faces behind the names on the BR forum!

Please count me in, this is exactly what I was looking for. I'm booked in to do the Dragon Ride in June and Ironman Wales in Sept. I know the Dragon Ride organisers have arranged a similar thing, but I can't make their dates. Also what you are proposing is a fraction of the price. Thanks again, Davy0

Do you have any spaces free for the ride? There are a couple of people I know who are interested.0

Yes - plenty of spaces left, slog - the more the merrier.
