I have managed to shear of the end of the brake pad retaining bolt on a Tektro Auriga Comp caliper and have no idea how to get the shaft out?

Any ideas before I take a visit to my LBS to be told they can't remove it and I need a new caliper?

    Hi

you could try drilling it out very carefully and you might be able to save the thread other than that i guess its a new caliper job I expect.

If you can't save the thread then just use a split pin to retain the pads.
  • Is any of the threads exposed outside the caliper ? if there is enough you might possibly be able to tap a internal torx on the either end of the thread, obviously turn to the left if its the sheared side and to the right if its the other :)

Or as already said..... very carefully start with a very small drill bit and work your way up to the thread size :)

Clean the end with some isoprapanol to degrease it dab a small amount of araldite two part onto the stud left in then bond a small allen key to it and try to unwind it after 24hr cure time.

If there is any of the stud showing out the other end grab it with some pincer nose mole grips and again wind it out.

As the bolt is very small do not drill it you will damage the threads of the caliper body......

If you do drill it you will still need an easy out screw removing kit
