As you can see I'm new here, and i originally posted this in the 'General' area. As I quickly discovered, in one persons words, 'it is slightly dead...' So i thought i would re-post it here:

I've got around £300 to spend on a new bike and i thought I'd ask some opinions before I go and try some. I think i'm looking for a hybrid bike - it would be for mostly roads and smooth-ish tracks, but i don't want it to fall apart if i decide to do a little bit of off-road/bumpier paths. Anyway, you guys know waaay more than me about bikes than me, so i would love suggestions. But these are some I have been looking at online and can buy locally.

Carrera Subway 2 - £300 - http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165534

Giant Seek 4 (2010) - £315 (sounds like a good deal on the 2010 model?) http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/bik ... 864/38994/

Trek 7.0 fx - £300 - http://www.trekbikes.com/uk/en/bikes/bi ... /fx/70fxe/

Thanks!

The Trek is clearly more 'sit up and beg' but also uses road bike wheel size and gearing.

The Seek looks better value despite some lesser components in the drivetrain) than the Subway (and is about 1Kg lighter), the Trek is a different style of bike, so perhaps you should try both.

The Carrera stuff is pretty good value for money really. (vomits in mouth due to borderline recommending a hybrid)
Sometimes parts break. Sometimes you crash. Sometimes it’s your fault.
  • Haha thanks for the help guys! I know almost nothing about what components are good etc. so that really helped. So, the Trek is more towards a road bike than the other two?
Anyway, i'm going to try them tommorow, so I'll see which I find most comfortable.

I'm a big Trek fan but bloody hell the spec on that model is just criminal - STAY CLEAR

If you dont mind I suggest you spent your hard earn on a 2nd hand bike of your choice, try the classifieds on BR then ebay if all else fails - avoid craigslist and co. stolen bikes innit!

  • Just an update. I went to a few shops yesterday, and the seek 4 was sold out.
Anyway, the guy showed me a 'specialized sirrus' which seemed really nice, for £330.
