So when I got my EX8 last year I got it on finance through Black Horse (TSB). The bike was £2000, I paid £200 deposit and the credit agreement was for a 12 payments of £149.91 (interest free loan).

The first payment came out February 2010 so that means the 12th payment was meant to be January 2011 right? Well I just checked my online banking and they've taken another £149.91 today and the same last month, making 14 payments now and taking the total amount paid over the original full price of the bike.

Why the hell would they do this? I cant even unleash the fury over the phone as they knock off at 5 and dont come back till 9am monday. :x

I had the same problem using BH for a car loan. They took out 2 extra payments before I noticed. When I spoke to them they told me it was my up to me to cancel the Direct Debit!!
They did refund the extra payments straight away.I wouldn't use them again.
  • Hmm cheers for the heads up, i've got finance with Black Horse, will keep an eye out because its up soon!

Not that I have a clue in terms of the legality, if the contract is for X amount of payments they have to adhere to that and their systems should be setup as such, its pretty easy on our systems at work to do but I dont process payments myself hence why I dont know the ins and outs of the legal stuff.

No loan I ever had took more payments than due, although never with BH.

They are taking money that isn't due to them which is paramount to theft? although I'm sure thats an over exageration and someone will come along and tell me so

"Apparently" according to BH it is the responsibility of the customer to cancel any SO/DD payments as their(BH) systems will just keep on asking for DD's until the customer puts an end to it

For the OP- contact your bank, do direct debit indemnity claim, get immediate refund. Also this'll cause BH a bit of low level irritation.

Just got off the phone to Black Horse (after going through their complaints department). Apparently they must have realised they'd taken more than they should at the same time as a refund was already on the system (much to the confusion of the bloke I was talking to).

Now I just gotta decide what to spend that £300 on. Sunline bars and stem and a chain guide anyone?

I had the same thing with a loan company. I only phoned up to change the date of my payment, it turned out I'd paid too much but if I didn't phone them they wouldn't have checked and I'd still be paying...
