one has turned up in the auction locally. A bit unloved (but clearly we used in the past!) it appears to have a different front fork, the brakes will need redoing and it could generally do with a bit of love. Other than that it is all there. I was going to get one anyway new but that would mean waiting for a few months. Any thoughts?

Pardon my ignorance, you might be referring to some classic 531 steel frame, but the question seems a bit vague.0 -
ahhh not you ignorance - mine!!! It is a dahon folding vitesse - fairly older model I'd guess (can you tell yet that I'm not v. good at this :-) )0

Ah, ok. Hard for anyone to say really, without any other details. Get a test ride if you can, check for any major defects, weigh up the auction price against the RRP, then make your decision I suppose.0

Looks pretty good although has the "I've been in a garage for a while" feel. Replacement fork is a bit of a concern, but it is very clear being a different colour, which makes me feel better about it!
The brakes will need rewiring, but I figure, how hard can that be? :-)
And it is awe inspiringly light in comparison to my raleigh - yum!0
