Specialized Pitch Comp 2010 - XT crankset question

I have recently received a XT M771-k Chainset however I did order the normal M770 chainset.
What I have noticed was the outer ring was different and and the gearing are as follows
48/36/26t as opposed to the M770 version 44/32/22.
The Pitch comp 2010 is a double set up and are 36/24t with chainguide.
I was only going to use the crank arms and retain the chains I already haveon the PITCH in order to keep things simple but the chainset received on the XT's M771 seem to be suitable.
Will this be do able? or are there any issues to look out for as I dont know too much about cranksets, chainrings and incompatible issues with sizing and clearence issues.

do able. but may be better to use the new rings on the old cranks as i have a feeling the axle is longer on the 771s.
will check."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

New rings on old cranks?
not New rings with new cranks?0 -
yep the 771 have a 5mm spacer for( touring/hybrids) on the drive side so the axle is 5mm longer than really needed (heavier/more flexibly)"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
