caliper adjustment on avid elixir hydraulic brakes

I have been trying to stop pad rub on my advids for a while now and have tried everything on the forums apart from loosening and re-positioning the caliper itself. This is simply because I don't know how to do it!

On my old bike with Hayes brakes there were two allen key bolts facing outwards from the wheel - when I loosened those the whole caliper became adjustable. On the avids, one of these bolts will take an allen key and loosen, but the caliper will not move. The other one I can't get any allen keys to fit in, and as far as Im aware i have a whole set.

I can't find any diagrams on how to loosen the caliper, I'm sure its really simple but I'm missing it so far!

I dont know whether this will fix the problem but if anyone knows anything i dont, this is what happens when I try and fix it:
I push the pads well apart and fit into the dropouts, wheel spins fine. I then squeeze the lever and pad starts to rub, the more I squeeze the lever the more rub, and if I squeeze it right to the bar then the rub is so bad the wheel wont spin. When I repeat the process same thing happens - could it be that the caliper is wrongly positioned?

Thanks for any advice! :o)

Thanks, I found that one bolt would not accept an allen key though. As far as you know is it just allen keys that you need to use?

it is on mine.....but who knows what bolts have been put into yours.

the avid caliper sits on two cup shaped shims rather than standard flat ones so you can alter the angle of its dingle dangle to the nth degree...
