No need for tyre levers with folding tyres. Which can be handy when you are dealing with a flat, as you can have them off and on with no risk to your rims or tubes.0

To be fair I've never had to use levers to put a wire bead tyre on, if anything they are easier to go on without being all floppy.0

I've had some wire bead as easy to put on as folders and some that are impossible to get on without levers, let alone off!
Sometimes the wire bead tyres have a little more reinforcing in the sidewall and are less prone to pinch punctures, but it's by no means a given.

Ok for general XC / Trail riding or woodland tracks any thoughts of the following courtesy of CRC:
Maxxis Ignitor XC for 26.99 each
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=9880
Panaracer Fire XC same price

or a bit left field
WTB Prowler for 10.98 each - will this be much worse than either of the above?

I think I'd be buying from a place that didn't have a big problem with credit card fraud at the moment. Kenda Nevegals are good for all year xc, but given the summer season is almost here I'd be tempted to go for a fast trail tyre
e.g Specialized Fast Trak LK (in a control or sworks)0 -
There is only some speculation about transactions at CRC, and you can always pay by paypal, lets not propogate specualtive myths - innocent until proven guilty and all that.
MBR has a good review this week on several tyres for muddy conditions.

Nothing wrong with wire bead, but, sometimes it comes with a spec drop as well- frinstance the wire bead singleply Nevegals have a totally different carcass and a really hard, plasticky compound, they're orrible- look similiar but they're not the same tyre at all.
The Fire XC's a pretty oldschool tyre, it's a fair allrounder but doesn't really excel, I think they're a bit past it personally. Slower than a Nevegal or Highroller maxxpro and not as grippy either. Not a bad price though. Don't know about the others you mention. The Beginner wrote:There is only some speculation about transactions at CRC
My bank has a team in their fraud squad dealing with "the chain reaction issue", bit more than speculation that I reckon. But, that's not stopped me shopping with them, I'm just using paypal for now.Uncompromising extremist0 -

My credit card company has banned me from spending at CRC I got a big warning and a get out of here quick button. Used Paypal and that was fine.Fig rolls: proof that god loves cyclists and that she wants us to do another lap0
