Garmin Edge 305 - Two questions

My second hand Garmin Edge 305 runs out of charge, with gps on, after about 4 hours.

1) How long should it last with a healthy battery?

2) Is it easy to fit a new battery in yourself?

I'm doing the Cheshire Cat 100 and it'll be taking me a tad longer than four hours
Cheers

Have a look on youtube for videos on changing the battery, can't be no harder than doing the battery on a 705.

Should be similat to a 705 in that it is held together with 6 torx screws of a small size. Buy a set of small ones from Maplin, so you can check the size, for about £5. New batteries from Amazon for £15ish.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Should I expect more than 4 hours from the battery?

If the battery is the same as the one in the 705 (not sure if this is the case...) you should be getting well over 10hrs

I've definitely had 8+ hours from the battery. If you need more, then you can use a USB battery extender. I used that and got 11 hours and the Garmin battery was still full.

Don't forget, after you've re-charged, to switch the device on and off again. Sometimes it "forgets" that it should be switched off when the USB connection is disconnected, so it needs reminding.

Thanks for your helpful replies. I'll change the battery and look at YouTube for guidance. :)

From what ive seen on the net, the 305 is glued together rather than screwed together,it can certainly be done and many have, but ive also heard of people buggering them up completely trying to replace the battery,if you do replace the battery make sure the contacts are firmly attached as the reason many 305,s have been taken apart is because of loose battery contacts causing them to switch off during a ride,i must have a good 305 as its four and a half years old and still lasts about 10 hrs on a full charge.

I think I read somewhere that Garmin will replace a battery for a nominal fee. Not sure where I saw it, but I'm sure if you Googled it you could find it.
