Last week I had an accident whilst commuting home from work, long story short, i hit a car, impacted with his windscreen, no serious damage to myself thankfully but my bike is a bit of a state.

It is a Cannondale Caad8 which i brought in September (£999). The main point of impact was at 15mph and it was front wheel to car bumper. It has creased the frame in 2 places - frame is complete write off!. It has buckled the rear wheel, bent the brake lever, possibly bent the rear derailleurs too plus a bit of cosmetic damage.

Fortunately i have insurance, they have passed it on to a bike replacement service who are deciding whether to replace the bike or just replace the frame and rebuild with existing parts.

i am a bit annoyed about this as i am concerned about the integrity of the other parts on the bike, will the carbon forks be susceptable to breakage further down the line? Will i suffer with problems with my gear changes if something is not put back as it should be

I realise that the insurance want to pay out as little as possible but i have new for old on my policy but i am told it does not cover this. My bike is my pride and joy and i dont want some half baked rebuild job with possible weakened or susceptable components going back on.

Do i have any position to dictate what i want to the insurance company?

Ahhh, no need. All sorted - been on phone this morning and agreed to replace entire bike.

    Thanks for looking anyway.

If you are claiming on your own insurance policy, it is a matter of contract lawe- read your contract.

Without reading the contract, I cannot advise you on the terms of the same

Are you not claiming off the driver, or was it your fault ?
