Wheels, axles and forks

Hi,

I'm looking at purchasing wheels and have a pair of Rockshox Recon Gold RL forks. I'm thinking that I might spec the hubs to be bolt through axle rather than QR, mainly due to security reasons. It seems for front wheels, hubs can be spec'd for 15mm or 20mm. I don't seem to be able to find out what size axle the forks will take, can anyone advise?

Mark.

9mm Qr. or 9mm nutted. so no through axles.

Mmm.. OK, cheers. QR is probably the best bet then. It's a bit worrying though when you've got £100+ wheel that are quickley releasable!! :?

    why is it worrying?

it is just about a quick to remove the whole front end.

Yeah, it's ok, it's just me. I've recently had a bike stolen so I suppose I'm a bit twitchy still. I'm starting to look at everyone as being potential thieves!

Just on another technical point, with the new 10-speed cassettes, etc. do I need to be careful with the frame spec or rear wheel hub sizes or are they narrower, and therefore would they require a narrower chain?

If you're that worried about theft then you might want to invest in one of them locking headset top cap thingys.

hubs are the same but the rest is different.

see the info in the FAQs.

Halo do a bolt through axle compatible with QR.

You not only get theft resistance but a more secure clamping method.

make sure you get the XL version as the regular is for road bikes.
Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?

    err they dont.

they do a Hex key Skewer.

and they do nutted axles for some of their hubs but they dont do through axles.
