RockShox Fork has a dead zone

I went in to my LBS today with my bike and they told me that there was a sort of 'dead zone' in my forks' travel.

The forks travel a couple of mm without engaging the air/spring. Essentially a couple of mm where the forks move very easily without real effort (i.e. pushing down on the handlebars).

They are RockShox Tora 302s (80-130mm travel, mine are set to 130mm) bought from On-One last year when they were going very cheaply.

Anyone know what might be causing this and if there is a fix?

This is a trait of the solo air spring - there is a valve that opens to equalise the positve and negative air chambers. It often can be felt as a slight click, and seems to result in a little bit of travel like that. Nothing you can do really.

Well if it's normal then that's okay :)

My LBS offered to open the forks up and have a look (i.e. do a full service) which would have cost more than I paid for the forks or suggested I send them off to somewhere like TFTuned.
  • thats perfectly normal for air shocks, sometimes i hear people on trails with their forks clicking in and out of that "zone", pretty wied but normal,

simular to the air forks and the "gass" affect kinda freaks people out but another normal thing.

LBS are pretty exspecive to service forks and i know how you feel lol tried to see mine and cost more to service than buying a new fork
