Why not to ride wearing jeans...

It's never been a problem on the mountainbike, and I was only going for a short ride so I didn't bother changing...

Oops. Shorts from now on then... the teeth on the front chainrings are sharper than they look! (also I am incompetent).

Admitting that you wore jeans isn't nearly as shameful as revealing you didn't do your entire ride in the big ring. MTFU!!

If I'm doing a short commute into uni, I'll wear my baggy trackies (very chav looking) and I'll tuck my right leg bottom into my sock (even more chav-esque!). It does it's job though.
  • Big ring? Oh hell no... I love my granny! 8)

Jeans were actually very comfy until they tore though, and I didn't expect them to catch so hadn't rolled them up.

In fairness, as the style police, from what I can see, your bike did you a favour.

if they'd been tight enough they wouldn't have got caught in the ring!

Just your bikes way of telling you it's 2011 and that baggy jeans, nowadays, are the reserve of skateboarders and MTBers...

    Oh.

  • They weren't really baggy before they got a big hole in them! :P

Good point about style though, I'm assuming I fail on all fronts... jeans, skate shoes and theres probably multiple offenses going on with the socks (a bright pink pair with penguins on underneath the black ones)?

Anyway, since this is a beginner section I thought I'd let you all laugh at my idiocy, and perhaps prevent some other fool ruining their clothes by doing the same thing in a similar fit of lazyness!

I thought only Lance wore black socks on a bike, which was enough of a reason for my father in law to dislike him, apparently

Bought my first new pair of jeans for about 2 years t'other week (2 sizes smaller thanks to cycling :D ) and second day on jumped on the MTB to collect/shepherd the kids home from school - yup, nice 6 inch chainwheel rips right down the right inside leg; twat

Done that on my work trousers. Nipped down the shop to get something at lunch time and slit right up the seem. I had to wear them like that the rest of the day. I now tuck my jeans/trousers into my socks on the inside (not really noticeable or so I tell myself) though my downtube bottle cage still can catch me out if I'm a bit careless and leave a bit of a bulge. That ones nearly worse as it doesn't rip the trousers, your leg just stops dead which causes a worrying wobble and frantic back peddling

Not a chance of that ever happening. I'd buy bicycle clips before I'd do that and hell will freezer before I buy bicycle clips unless with the boom in cycling they become super trendy then I'll jump on the bandwagon

I always wore bicycle clips in my youth. Even then they were unfashionable, but fashion isn't my strong point even now :-)

I genuinely wish I could cycle to work on one of those in my suit.

    F*ck me that'd be cool.
