Alternative to Snake pass.
Hi,
I've volunteered to do the C2C for charity in July and I'm trying to find some training routes I can do as I'm fairly inexperienced.
I live in Manchester and my parents live in Dore near Sheffield, which, ideally are located at either end of Snake pass and are about 50 miles apart. The problem is, I'm not overly keen on having cars and lorries tearing past me all day, I've drove the road many times and the thought of it puts me right off.
Could anyone help me out with a different, less busy alternative between the two places please? Ideally along the same general sort of route. I'm on a mountain bike, so don't mind a little of the rough stuff and a few decent climbs.
Cheers,
Steve.

follow the trans pennine trail. it passes though hadfield, then over the top to penistone, then you can ttake the route from silkstone common to sheffield.
itts further, but nearly all off road and fun too!0 -
What Bob said. The only alternative to the Snake is Doctors gate but that only cuts out about 7 miles or so.0
