Is there any real-world reason why i couldn't use Red Rum in my Fox Van's - they're out of warranty now so any probs would be sorted my me. Or does anyone use, say, Rock Oil / Silkoline fork oil (of the correct weight of course...).

    Not at all - though specified weights can vary brand to brand.

    There is a nice table comparing all the different brands relative drag.
