Anyone ever tried it?
Dislocated my right thumb whilst rugby training today and have been told it'll take 2-3 weeks to be okay again. Tried getting on the bike when I got home but as soon as I had both feet on the pedals and my hands on the bars (dropped bars) it was incredibly painful. I want to just take some HTFU and cycle anyway but deep down I know it's probably not a good idea. Suggestions?

I had a series of knee injuries as a teen and generally found that my body would tell me when I was able to ride again.

If it hurts to ride, the body isn't ready and you could do more damage.

    imo of course.

Thumbs are pretty important. Time off the bike for you, I think.

Hope that time is as short as possible.

But...but...I have a spare thumb! Could I do the whole commute one-handed?
Annoyingly it still seems to be okay with a rugby ball (fundraising match on Friday which I'd feel very guilty about not playing in) but not with a bike...

I fractured my pinkie playing cricket (dropped catch too). That made riding difficult enough at times. The vibrations got so bad when the road surface was bumpy I'd end up riding with one hand. Given a thumb is a lot more important than a pinkie I'd be inclined to take a rest.

Can you hold a can of beer in your injured hand? If so move the brake lever to the other side and you'll be fine.

Just wait till it's better. If you injure it again before it's had a chance to heal you'll make things a lot worse for yourself.

Ride a hybrid, don't need opposable thumbs for that...
