Specialized brain

Hiya Gents

I got the 2010 Stumpy with the brain. Really only got to ride it twice and the brain packed up. So Specialized very quickly sorted it for me. But since getting it back, I find it feels like its locking out at all the wrong times.

Its only minor and for an instant but its definitely not letting go as smoothly as I would like. I have no previous experience with the brain, so is this a normal characteristic of the brain?

Its set to 4 clicks for firm as the manual suggests.

So your saying its the normal character of the brain to feel like its locking out when it shouldn't?

i'm saying before you blame it on the brain's characteristics why not try a softer setting first? sometimes it solves the problem for you as it may be 'reccomended' but might not suit your riding style/what you want out of it. if it still feels like it's locking out at the wrong time on softer settings then you can say it's the shock. does that make sense?

I understand what you are saying? But my question is whether this is a brain characteristic, because on setting 4 is XC oriented and anything more it becomes to soft for XC and then pointless as far I am concerned.

Do you have the brain on your bike?

Unfortunately not as i was too poor at the time! (hence why i havn't denied or confirmed the brain to be at fault) but if it goes from all to nothing then i'd be surprised (or like you say the brain is still not functioning properly)

I have a 2007 sworks stump with the fox brain.
It opens up very smoothly set 3 clicks from firm.
The thing is 'they' say that it locks a bit on hard knocks so I,m always trying to feel this, problem with anything ajustable.
The weight in the brain stays level and the bike moves up so its very quick.
And your brain is younger than mine.

That's only a starting point, the set up of the shocks is a very personal thing.

I can run anything from 1 to 7 clicks on the rear of my Epic and 2 to 5 clicks on the front, depending on conditions.

I would double check the sag is 100% correct and try a click or 2 either side of the guide setting and see if there's an improvement.

Or even try it fully open for a ride to see if the shock itself is functioning properly. My 2011 Epic works exactly when it should, to the point that I dont feel it working!
