Now i'm no beginner or numpty when it comes to setting up rear mech's.
So i Just changed my old faithfull Deore rapid rise to a Shadow "Normal" mech, Shifts perfect going up to the bigger gears but going back down to the small ones is very iffy? any ideas?
Cheers

Assuming your cables are fine, the shadow needs a much smaller cable loop than non shadow mechs. Almost a straight cable.I don't do smileys.

Deore is normally normal rise and SLX come in rapid.
if the mech sits over the big cog without the cable attached it is rapid rise.
if the mech will not shift smoothly to the default position (see above) it is always cable related. tension/friction/poor routing."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

nicklouse yes it was a deore rapid rise, been very good but now the trailing sprockets look like a smooth coin and a ninja throwing star! Lol
I replaced it with a shadow slx standard one (it's gonna be confusing on the thumbs for a while!) I suppose it could be routing cable issues or sticky cable? See how it gets on tonight?0 -
opps forgot about the 591.
ta for the correction.
most likely to be the rear loop."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Hi,
This may seem obvious but which SLX rear mech did you get?
I made the mistake of getting the newer M663 thinking '10 speed only, tosh. Its just a dumb mech the shifter sorts out the throw of the mech'.....
Ehh, No it IS ten speed only i couldn't get it to index on a nine speed setup so ended up getting the M662 mech, which setup with no problems.
Anyone want an SLX M663 rear mech? :oops:0 -
how much?I'm going to blow the bank on a new build ( within reason ) NOW DONE!!
