Squeaky Wheels

Hiya guys and girls,
just wondering if anyone can give me a little help.....
I noticed the other day that my back and possibly the front wheels are squeaking when i ride. I don't think it's the brakes as, even though they've had a good bit of usage, they're still fairly new. It sounds like its coming from the hub itself. I GT85 the front and back before and after rides, but still it persists. More towards the end of the ride :? I've got the new Cube Acid 2011 if that helps. Please give me a hand on this as its annoying and even though there's only really deer and sheep up Margam to hear it....never the less they can give you some dirty looks when you come squealing past
Cheers folks,
Jon

Have you checked alignment of rotars and are they true?
Does it happen when you are freewheeling, i.e. not pedalling
Is it a constant sqeak or a intermediate squek i.e. with the revolution of wheel or disc.
Pop it up in a stand and see if it still happens, might be different with no weight on the bike and in doors you mayl hear it better and find the little mouse inside your frame.Elmo is my dad0 -
not checked them yet. Gonna have a look this weekend over my mates. Happens when i'm pedalling and freewheeling. Sounds a bit intermitant but happens after an hour or so of riding. Turned the bike upside down after my ride yesterday as didn't have a stand when i was out and it stopped. So seems like its only when there is weight on the bike, Bloody mouse is annoying tho. fingers crossed i get it sorted quickly. Cheers for the advice tho. will be back on here if i get no joy.Cube Acid 2011

Hmmm, I have this problem too, on my 'cross bike. When pedaling AND freewheeling there is a squeak which seems to come from the hub. I have tried squirting GT85 on the bearings but it doesnt work .
jon.lane have you got cartridge bearings in the hubs? Thats what mine are.
Any help (for both of us) would be muchly appreciated."Orbea, Bianchi, Ridley, Van Nicholas, Planet X, Niner. My Euro-bike menagerie was going well up to the last 2..."0 -
I have to say, I do like the colour scheme going on with the cube. Good shout.
How old is the bike? Might just need breaking in!
Deore hubs...no sealed bearings so could be a cse of taking axel out and replacing or cleaning/greasing bearings, pick up a set of bearings for a couple of quid. Your better putting some gease in rather than spraying gt85 in every time. But obviously have to take axle out first.
Or the wiser option...bring it back under warranty and tell them to deal with it but wheels are generally are hard argument to push under warranty so have your story straight....."you dropped off a 100mm kerb on your way to get your gran some teabags then gave birth to a mouse"Elmo is my dad0 -
Bearings really need decent grease, not thin oil, and they are sealed so only real solution is to replace the bearings if they are shot.
But are they grindy, or is there just a squeak, which could come from other things like dry seals etc.I don't do smileys.

Mine are just squeaky, and I thought it was dry seals, hence the GT85.
But the squeak persists"Orbea, Bianchi, Ridley, Van Nicholas, Planet X, Niner. My Euro-bike menagerie was going well up to the last 2..."0 -
As said above.....need some proper grease on them i.e. teflon grease rather than oily lube such as gt85. Same as putting GT85 on chains, it helps but still proper chain lube.Elmo is my dad0

yer had my bike serviced by Tredz in Cardiff couple of weeks ago so might mention it to them and see if they can sort it out. Although it started after they gave it back. Bought bike back in January and have been on it most weekends so should be broken in. Yer need some decent lube. They mentioned that as well. If you constantly just use GT85 it can sometimes strip the grease away and make things worse :?Cube Acid 2011
