I was on a ride with a guy who wore them - he was not a "racing whippet", but he found them less comfortable than his other rapha shorts....

Just wanted to resurrect this one. I know it is coming to the end of summer but I often wear shorts and thin tights in Spring/Autumn.

Any more folks tried the Rapha Pro Team bib shorts yet? How do they compare to other decent shorts, say Castelli? I've read a few reviews mentioning them falling apart but I figure that it is always easy to get that kind of thing out of perspective.

Also, at 5'10", any thoughts on sizing?

    Thanks
  • My mate has these. No problems to date.

With all shorts it really depends on the quality of the lycra/Spandex/insert other brand name for elastane. Some of the 'bigger' brands use really cheap elastane resulting in a product that stretches and bags. Note this is how a lot of the 'smaller' brands get into the market. Personally I think Castelli is a prime candidate for using 'cheaper' fabrics with inflated prices.

They'll argue that these issues above can be overcome by shape of pattern pieces and how they are stitched together but the reality is far from this.

Anyway - I digress - shorts are fine.

  • I have a pair, on par with assos and other top shorts. I think the pad is better in these than the other Rapha shorts. The crash repair service is great as well I ripped my pair and they repaired them for free. They come up pretty small tho,so I would size up or buy two pairs and use the free postage to send a pair back.

Just one thing to add following a comment my brother made after riding these shorts. The pad is positioned slightly further forward than the standard classic bibshorts, aimed at riders spending more time on the drops. He found this a little odd at first as he is more of a climbing fan than a crit racer! On the whole though he is full of praise for the general fit and quality.

I now see that they come with a free stick-on handle bar mustache.

Do these have the 30 day trial offer or is it the standard pair? If so, get them and try them and get your money back if you don't like them
