Hi i have just took my reba sl forks apart and after following some advice on the threads was going to adjust them to 100mm,but after taking them apart it seems that they can't be adjusted. when i took them apart it seems there were no spacers but the assembly had a 40mm plastic bit in it that is afixed length spacer with the bottom o ring attached to it can anyone help or tell me a solution could it be cut down?

not all rebas are all travel.

but you MAY be able to replace the 40mm spacer with a 20mm one to give you a 100mm travel fork.

But if the rest of the fork will not allow this then you cant.

Some OEM rockshox forks cant be adjusted-not sure if yours is one of those...

It could be that you have a choice of 80mm or 120mm-if you want 100mm you may have to buy a 2cm spacer to replace the 4cm spacer but I may be wrong-somebody who knows more about the innards of rockshox forks may be able to help you more.

Right guys good news i think before i took the air out of them they were mearsuring about 85mm,i have just been out to the garage and if i pull them up manually with no air in them and measure them they are measuri ng at 110m but i still have to put oil and air back in but does this mean i will be able to acheive the travel i was after?

Cut the 40mm spacer in two, then replace.

From what i said above does this mean with the right air pressure i can acheive this travel?

Yes, if you remove a 40mm spacer, the maximum positive travel is 120mm. Be aware that negative air can suck the fork down - and a little can remain in there, especially if you deflate the positive before the negative.

After some further research the bit i have referred to is the base plate bumper which seems to be standard in the sl and there are no washers in there.

I think i mean the baseplate and not the bumper sorry getting a bit confused.

If there is no spacer they are already set to 100mm - the SL are 80/100. If you had 85mm of travel prior to removal this would suggest they are already set at 100. You don't need to cut anything down. Re-oiling will not reduce the travel, only -ve pressure will. If you have 105mm with +iv only, then you don't need to change anything

I think there is a danger that you could saw through the top of your -ive air valve given the description of the part you are referring too.

google Rockshox reba Dual Air Spring Assembly and find a pic that matches what you have. The 2009 is different from the 2008 and older.

Thanks DIY that's what I thought I am glad someone has put me straight now to put the pressure back in and oil wish I had never touched them as i now need to source a shock pump and buy oil as there seemed to hardly be any in the fork.

go to a motorbike shop 5w and 15w in a quality 500ml bottle will be about 4 quid each.

if you haven't drained the moco, you only need 15w

from memory you need 15ml for the air spring upper and 5ml for left and right lowers. you should also give all the rings and seals a bit of a soak while you have it apart.
