Replacing old Suntour Freewheel

I recently inherited a Raleigh Pioneer Trail, but it needs a new freewheel, I just wondered whether a shimano tourney 7 speed freewheel would work as it is a 7 speed suntour freewheel from the early ninties so far as the sproket spacing. I would preferably like to use a mega range 14-34 freewheel, rather than a 14 - 28 freewheel, because I plan on using it in some quite hilly areas so I need a really low gear. I know I need a two pin suntour freewheel tool. But I my LBS had some for £3. I saw a nos one on sjs cycles for about £21 but I want to spend as little money as possible. It has a pair of suntour XCT derailleurs.

as the shifting is not indexed you should not have any issues using a shimano thread on freewheel.
(even if indexed it should be fine)."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Yes, a 7 speed Shimano block should work well. However your derailer may not cope with 34teeth, and you'd need a new longer chain.0

It is indexed though, it is a suntour accushift plus.0

like i said it should be fine.
Suntour tend to follow the shimano patten."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
