md80 memory card

I have a 8gb card in my cam. When there are no files the card still has over 3gb used up? What's going on?

    Are you a Mac, Linux or PC user? If you're a Mac user and you've "deleted" files by sending them to the trash can, it'll actually keep them in a hidden folder on the card unless you empty the trash (before removing the card, obviously).

    Best bet whatever operating system you're running would be to format the card.

    This. I recall reading in an SLR magazine that (any) camera doesn't really like individual files being deleted one by one from a memory card. Formatting the card to wipe everything makes sure you've got a full card each time.

    PC user. Will try to format card again but memory card reader became non responsive yesterday every time I put the card in.
