Newbie: Voodoo Masara vs Carrera Kraken

Ok, so I'm in the Market for a bike...
As my work has a corporate deal with Halfords (great discounts) I'm
purchasing from there.
I would like a bike which I can travel to and from family and friends houses, so generally no more than a 15 mile round trip. Something which helps with general fitness too!
I called to Halfords today and was very impressed with the Voodoo Masara. The problem is I can't find reviews for this anywhere as it's a new release. I did also look at a Carrera Kraken after the salesman suggested it as a great bike and something which more road based tires could be fitted to.
I know I'll spend more time on roads than anywhere, but would also like to go along trails and through parks etc. No downhill or rough terrain is a definite.
Anyone got any thoughts on this and any feedback on the Voodoo? Any help would be really appreciated!
Cheers
