Can anyone recommend a good quality rain jacket? I am looking for something to wear over a jersey when I get caught out, not a big thick wind/rain stopper type jacket.

    What's your budget?

An open question can attract answers from £20 to £400.
  • i reckon i can stretch to 170 give or take a little. I'm more interested in getting something that will last and dont mind paying for the quality. I've had a look at a mavic one in Condor cycles. I have a voucher for chainreaction so hoping to get it from there.

    If I had a £170 budget, that's what I'd be getting!!

I have a Rapha rain jacket. It's just too nice to wear in the rain though.
  • looks good, but I was hoping to use this voucher for chain reaction - £50

castelli leggero, really a wind/showerproof but will keep you dry unless it's really hammering down, nice soft fabric that doesn't rustle, vents to let moisture out, weighs about 85g, scrunches up small, takes up about a quarter of a pocket

i've worn mine almost every day this year (and a lot the last year), no signs of wear, zipper still smooth, and although mine's white, the road crud washes out easily without leaving stains up the back

for a full waterproof, they have the sottile jacket, same weight and packability, still no rustling, fabric is slightly stretchy so you can get a really snug fit, has some vents in the armpits but not as breathable due to the waterproof fabric
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny

I've got one as well. I wore it this afternoon to keep the chill out as my gillet hasn't arrived yet. I did look amazing

I've been looking on Cotswold outdoors website. They have a Montane Stormrider jacket reduced from £200 to £110.

Does anyone have any views on it?

I have the Stormrider. Great jacket but like all waterproof jackets, even though it's made of eVent, it still has boil-in-the-bag properties - just better than most. If I had any quibbles, I'm not a fan of the cuff-closing system and the zip sometimes does that irritating thing of getting lining in it. Great price for an excellent jacket.

  • Thanks for the advice - I'll no go and take a look and see which I prefer. Much appreciated.

Felt so Good - thanks for the offer but I'm struggling to use the chain reaction cycles voucher I've been given. Plus I think Large maybe too big.
