ok, thanks, I will take a look. Is the norm to cycle to the meeting points or drive, park up and proceed by bike? Of course I'm talking if the meet and end point is over 15 miles away as after a long ride adding 30 miles extra is a fair bit of mileage!Wilier Mortirolo0

Which part of Birmingham are you in?
Here is another club Beacon CC

West Birmingham, Bearwood. The Beacon club looks quite convenient!
Have you ridden with them?Wilier Mortirolo0 -
Was going to join their intro ride early this month but my bike got delayed in shipping !! And the next intro ride will be on 1st week of April and I'm not free so I got to train on my on for a while and join the next C run session.
Register in their forum (Message Board) and post all your questions there. They will be glad to help you out.0 -
Hi Dean, I've been a member of the Beacon for about 14 years - we're a large, friendly,well-established club with members interested in most types of cycling. You'll be made very welcome at all events and activities - we're always happy to meet new folks. There are a range of clubruns you could join if that's what you're looking for and the meeting point is easy to find in Northfield on the A38. What kind of riding are you hoping to do?

Hi BeaconRuth
I'm generally just looking for weekend rides to improve fitness and ride in a group, and see where that takes me. I am very much a novice but have,in my opinion, a reasonable level of base fitness. I can do 45 miles in 3 hours on my old hybrid so I think on my road bike I could probably pick up the pace a little.
I'll take a look at the site and look at the next novice club ride.

Hi again Dean,
You sound like you're riding a bit better than novice-standard. You'd probably be fine on one of our B-clubruns. They take place every Sunday from the Black Horse in Northfield. There's plenty of advice about coming on clubruns on the club's website - the main thing is to make sure your bike is roadworthy and that you come prepared for punctures/all weathers etc. I'm sure you'll be fine if you're riding at 15mph on a hybrid. There's always a cafe at half-way to have a breather and a bacon butty.
As jonrwg suggests, if you get on our club forum then I'm sure some of those on the B run will look out for you and show you the ropes.

I used to be in Beacon CC - and they are very friendly group - always welcoming to newcomers - you want go far wrong with them.
I am now in Halesowen CC - which may be even closer to bearwood - we do a run of a Sunday morning usually 35-40 miles at an average of around 15 mph - there are plenty of juniors on the rides so no one gets dropped - After easter there are also Tuesday evening runs
PM me if you want more info.0 -
Hi,
I also live in Bearwood (and also ride a Wilier oddly enough) and although I'm not a club rider - Halesowen Cycle club is definitely your closest club. It's prob 3-4 miles max from Bearwood.
I see their groups reglualry on a Sunday morning (all decked in purple) around Clent & Romsley area which is probably the best riding ground over our way.
We often tag on the tails of their A riders, well for as long as we can anyway (which is never that long to be honest), but they seem a good bunch and have some very strong riders.
If you need any info or heads ups' on local routes etc give me a shout,
Cheers
