Hi
Need a new middle chainring for my Deore hollowtec 2
should I just get a replacement deore one or is the XT one better
have seen the Deore for about £13 and the XT for £26 but I have £5 off at wiggle so could get it for £21 so is it worth the extra £9
cheers

XT is lighter - steel teeth impregnated into a carbon/plastic shell.

    Old XT is all alu.

    Deore is all steel.

    I'd just get the deore.

cheers will stick with Deore one
any idea on cheapest place to pick one up from?
    its a 32t one
I think I am right in saying it's worn as when the chain sits on it there is a fair bit of forward and back movement

Unless you really want to save a few grams, buy Deore.

I just replaced my XT middle ring with a Deore.

LBS charged me £15. Yep, suppose I could have got it £2 cheaper online.

    cheers guys
I went out for a long ride today and it was fine with new chain no skipping at all
am I right in saying that it does not need replacing after all?

if it works with a new chain its probably ok. how does it look? if its starting to look like sharks fins, it may accelerate wear on the new chain..

my middle is just starting to get there (prob should have changed chain earlier, now at 1%) but cassete looks good and i put a new chain on last week and all seems smooth so am going to leave it for now and try and ride more in the big/granny.

oh and deore all the way.
