We've always camped. Good laugh, and usually lots of other like minded riders about. So get to look at their bikes and drool lol.

Will you be a large group? If you are, check out Glentrail House, run by bikers for bikers and great value if there's a few of you as you pay for the house not the occupancy.

For el cheapo try the wigwam village, puts you closer to the trails than the cafe and bike shop  Yes they are basically just garden sheds, or to put it differently, less s**t tents.

Otherwise Glentress Hotel, Peebles Hydro, both get good recommends.

Clothing, it's Scotland, bring your waterproofs, your thermals, your shorts and your sunglasses ;) Spares, there's good shops locally but bring whatever you sensibly can, save you money... Glentress isn't hard on kit though.

Great food, at the trail head so no driving, bike lock up and bike wash

I stayed at the Lindores B&B in Peebles itself. Great place, cheap, decent rooms, great fried breakfast each morning, and secure bike lockup and laundry facilities.

Take your tent show them midges whos boss.

If you can ride the trail whilst simultaneously scratching a thousand midge bites then you are a true mountain biker.

    Curiously, I didn't encounter a single midge whilst I was in Glentress/Inners.
    Or midgets.

Only place I've ever found midges there is the swampy hill that secrets and lies is built on... Otherwise it's green desert so not really midge territory.

You guys are lucky though I must admit I am a midge magnet. The little buggers must think I am a chinese all you can eat banquet.

  • We stayed at the Cross Keys in Peebles last year. IF you want cheap and don't mind a load of tanked up locals around its not unbearable. They have some bunk rooms that were £25 a night. Basic though.

Peeble Hydro had a deal on at about £50 per night for a single en-suite, with use of pool, jacuzzi etc. Thats where I'll be next time.

Me and t'husband stay at Glede Knowe B&B in Innerleithen, we went there for our honeymoon and have been there every year since for our anniversary - lovely place! Lots of mtbers go there, by a massive coincidence last year one of the other bikers there was a guy who was a teacher at Mr Toast's old school.

Skye the resident border collie likes putting pine cones in cars though.

Clothing wise I'd say take a mix of hot weather stuff and waterproofs. :P First two years we went we had glorious sunshine, last year was very rainy though. I went Benny Hilling off the side of Pennel's Vennel and caterpulted over the handlebars into a large pine. Clearly this was the fault of the weather, and not due to my lack of skills.
  • Lol. i avoid Pennel's Vennel in the rain because I did the same! Only because the potholes fill with water and you can't see the big rocks! Dead easy to skip up the fire road to the next section tho.

I ride Glentress every other week. You won't need more than a bike tool, spare tube, pump, spare chainlink, camelback/water, munchies and a waterproof if weather is iffy.

It is all freeflowing single track with some jumps, table tops & berms. If you do have serious kit problems (ie more than the above will fix) there is a bike shop on site but you are likely to be walking back anyway with more severe probs.

Can't help on the accommodation unfortunately but if you are travelling here, make sure you make it worth your while and take on inners as well.

If there's a group of you then this is a cracking place to stay: TheBikeLodge. I've stayed there loads of times (will be there again at the end of May :) ). Nic, the owner, is a biker and the bikes are stored indoors in a well equiped workshop.

Friends have told me Glentrail House is excellent and reasonable priced.

The Glentress Hotel??!!! I can simply say its the WORST place ive ever stayed. Never again! (unless it gets rebuilt)
