advice on 2 x9 set up

I currently running a triple on the front with 9 speed cassette, i am looking to reduce to a double on the front with bashguard. i am right in thinking a need to shorten the chain? if so how many links do i remove?

    the rule is the same. chain around the big rings and plus one full link. (subject to any chain grow on a fully).
